Travel Tuesday :: Diani, Mombasa.
Hey guys. I have been thinking of introducing a travel segment to this blog and it made sense to have it on Tuesday, because Travel Tuesday sounds kinda not-bad. It shall be a segment for all that I photograph when I travel within my own country Kenya or out of it. It should be fun. Think of it more as a visual travel diary as opposed to a write up of travel adventures. Though, when I have cool stories from cool places, I will definitely share them.
Today I share images from Diani which is in Mombasa. Most of you know that our beautiful coast has faced so much problems with the decline in tourism due to perceived notions of safety and travel bans from the west. I think it's up to us Kenyans to actually travel and save our economy when we can. Take a trip, it will do you better than spending all the money in a bar. I promise.
I don't think you have seen the sun rise in majesty until you have seen it rise in Diani. It is a magical thing. And interestingly, it looks much more intriguing just before the sun comes on in full power. Those moments while the light is trying to break past the darkness are the most interesting to me. The colours are ridiculous and merge in a way that proves to me that God exists. I see it in the colours.
The beaches are safe and quite deserted at that time. I did most of the shooting alone as my room was right on the beach but i'd much rather have company when shooting. It just reduces the risk so I suggest that you go as 2 people at least. Depending on the direction of the wind and tide, the seaweed could be on your side of the beach or on the other side of the beach. Enjoy it either way.
In Diani you can go snorkelling, deep sea fishing, diving, kite surfing, all these within 5 km or less. Ask your hotel and they shall give you information or visit Diani shopping centre, most service providers have offices there. A little further and you can visit Kisite Mpunguti Marine Park in Wasini which is a sight to behold. Snorkelling here should be an experience you should look forward to doing several times in a lifetime.
That's all for this post folks. I hope you liked the short trip I took you on to Diani and I hope you can take a trip down to the Kenyan coast and have this experience for yourself. If you have any questions, please ask and I hope to be able to answer or connect you with someone who can. If you have any more information to add, please do so in the comments and lets make this travel experience real.
