Travel Tuesday - Camping in Hells Gate [Part 1]
This blog post may be very little about the camping itself, that shall come in part 2. This is from my first camping experience in Hells gate national park. It has quickly become one of my fave places to camp already. I went there with a couple of friends from Instagram who all wanted to shoot and camp. Also, @jnsilva was in the country and the guys had the idea to take him out to enjoy a side of Kenya that isn't the streets of Nairobi.
One of the best things about Hells Gate is that you can hike or bike in the park too. It's safe enough for that if you don't mind buffalo and more herbivores. At least during the day. It would be unwise to do so in the evening or night, as some of the guys we were with soon discovered when they went to shoot stars off the campsite and almost got attacked by hyenas. It was a funny story, believe me. They managed to see the hyenas as they were circling them and quickly got back into the car and back to camp.
Hells gate is beautiful (as I may hopefully show you in the photos). The gorge in Hells gate inspired the legendary movie, Lion King. For any curious person, it's named Hells Gate after a narrow break in the cliffs, once a tributary of a pre-historic lake that fed early humans in the Rift Valley. The name was given by early explorers, Fisher & Thomson in 1883. From rock climbing, wildlife watching, hiking, biking & camping, there is a lot to do in Hells gate. My favorite part of it all was at sunrise. If you do go camp there, please get up before the sun and just take it all in. Maybe even go out for a game drive. I know I was wowed.

You can see how serious it gets when @lafrohemien starts stalking the zebras. It worked btw.
You can tell I love zebra, can't you? The are my second favorite animals, after elephants, of course.
My star trail game is getting better. Next time i am out shooting stars, I may nail it even better.
